Blackwater Sports secured its place in the quarterfinals of the PBA D-League Foundations Cup by crushing the Cagayan Rising Suns, 106-82, on Tuesday at the San Juan Gym.
AJ Mandani scored 18 points to lead four other players in double figures for the Elite, who bounced back from back-to-back defeats to clinch their spot in the next round with their fifth win in eight games.
It was a walk in the park for the Elite who used a strong start to seize control and never gave the Rising Suns a chance to make the game interesting.
“It’s tough to bounce back after losing two in a row. But the players know we have to win to make the next round and they responded well,” said Blackwater Sport coach Leo Isaac.
Gio Ciriacruz scored 15 points, Kelly Nabong (16 rebounds) and Jeric Fortuna had 14 apiece and Clark Bautista chipped in 11 for the Elite, who opened a 13-point advantage after one quarter and stretched it to 55-35 at halftime.
Blackwater Sports enjoyed its biggest lead at 104-73 on a basket by Mandani with 1:43 left to play.
It was another frustrating defeat for Cagayan, which got 25 points from Jason Melano, the only player in double digit for the Rising Suns.
The Rising Suns remain winless in eight games with one game left in the elimination round.
