Big Chill's Mallari, Jensen and Tan join PBA rookie draft

Big Chill scorer Alex Mallari along with teammates Keith Jensen and Elliot Tan have made themselves available for the PBA annual Draft scheduled on Aug.19 at Robinson’s Midtown Manila.

Accompanied by their agent Charlie Dy, the three Fil-Americans submitted their applications at the PBA headquarters on Monday.

Another Fil-American, NLEX reserve guard Karl Dehesa, also signified his intention to join the rookie draft. Fil-foreign players have until July 3 to apply to the draft.

Surprisingly, though, power forward Clifford Hodge and shooter Chris Ellis, who helped NLEX clinched its third straight PBA D-League championship, are skipping the draft.

Instead, the two are reportedly joining the Smart-Gilas Pilipinas national program’s cadet pool, which will represent the country in the Southeast Asian Games and the FIBA Asia Championship.

Hodge, named Best Player of the recent PBA D-League Foundation Cup, and Ellis powered Sinag-Pilipinas to a gold medal effort in last year’s SEA games.
